Who is Ken, and why does he want to travel back to the Qin Dynasty?
Ken is the project's true inventor, and after more than twenty years of wrongful imprisonment he returns to the time-machine lab with a revenge-driven plan. He forces Dr. Mo Yau to reactivate the machine so he can go back to the Qin Dynasty and seize power for himself, aiming to rewrite history and become the first emperor of China.
How is Hong Siu-lung connected to Emperor Ying Ching / Qin Shi Huang in the story?
Hong Siu-lung is the central hero who was originally sent into the past and became closely tied to Ying Ching, serving as a mentor-like figure whose presence helped shape the emperor's rise. In the film's present-day conflict, he is drawn back into the Qin era to confront the time-traveling threat, and the emperor's decisions are repeatedly influenced by his history with Hong.
What role does Hong Yu play, and why does Ken focus on him?
Hong Yu is tied to the future consequence of the story: the results of the Qin dynasty's eventual collapse and the line of history that follows it. Ken reveals that the Qin dynasty will fall to Hong Yu, who is identified as Bowie, Siu-lung's son, which makes Hong Yu a key figure in Ken's attempt to seize control of the timeline.
Why does the film say the emperor had to hide or erase parts of the truth about the time-travel events?
After the main conflict, Emperor Ying Ching orders the official record altered so the events will be recorded as a royal expedition in search of immortality rather than as a disruptive time-travel incident. This preserves imperial authority and conceals the threat posed by the temporal вмешательства.
