Vinland Saga: Season 2, Episode 7 - Iron Fist Ketil (2023)

In episode 7, Ketil's feared 'Iron Fist' image collapses when he privately admits to Arnheid that the persona is an act. He explains that he has built his public identity around the idea of being a tough Nordic man, but in reality he is afraid of Thorgil, war, and violence, and only feels safe being honest with Arnheid.

Thorgil returns home after Ketil sees him at a meeting in town, and his arrival immediately shifts the farm's mood. He is described as battle-trained and unlike his quieter father, and his presence begins influencing Olmar toward violence and war-minded thinking.

Snake and the guards investigate the repeated food thefts and conclude the same pair has been targeting the farm. The culprits are revealed to be two children, a brother and sister, and their case leads into a punishment discussion.

During the meeting about the thefts, Thorgil reacts with extreme brutality and says the children should each have one arm cut off. His response underscores how deeply he embodies violence compared with Ketil's more hesitant, performative toughness.

When Sture insists on taking all 20 lashings himself and Thorgil volunteers to administer the punishment, Ketil initially tries to reduce the number but then cannot bear to watch the violence continue. After seeing one brutal strike, he immediately steps in and takes over the flogging himself, showing his discomfort with actual cruelty despite his harsh public image.
