What is the plot?
The episode opens in the aftermath of the previous battle, with the surviving Mandalorians under Bo-Katan Kryze trying to escape Moff Gideon's hidden Imperial base on Mandalore while the facility begins to destabilize around them.
Bo-Katan leads her people through the corridors and toward an exit route, keeping the retreat moving as the group is pressed by the danger inside the base. At the same time, Axe Woves communicates with her while the larger Mandalorian force outside the base becomes part of the unfolding rescue and counterattack effort.
Inside the base, Din Djarin is separated from the others and remains in Gideon's custody at first, while Grogu is also pulled into the conflict through his own efforts to reach Din. Din manages to escape with Grogu's help, and the pair quickly move back into the fight rather than remain trapped.
Bo-Katan and the remaining Mandalorians reach a cave system they had used earlier as shelter and regroup there briefly, but they do not stay hidden for long because the base's collapse and the Imperial threat force them to keep moving. They are urged onward toward the surface as the situation worsens and the destruction inside the structure becomes more immediate.
Din, Grogu, and IG-12 push deeper into Gideon's command area, entering the room where Gideon has been directing his operation. There, Gideon reveals the full scope of his plan: he has been working to clone himself, enhance the result with Force sensitivity, and equip the finished soldiers in beskar armor so he can create an unbeatable army.
The confrontation escalates into a direct fight as Gideon clashes with Bo-Katan, Din, and the others amid the command center and adjoining hangar space. Gideon gains the upper hand against Bo-Katan and drives her toward the edge of a chasm, nearly killing her while he presses his advantage.
At the same time, Axe Woves makes the decisive choice to ram the flaming Mandalorian capital ship into Gideon's base in an effort to destroy the facility and stop Gideon's forces. The crash adds to the chaos inside, and the base begins falling apart around both sides as fire and debris spread through the structure.
Grogu uses the Force in the middle of the battle to throw Gideon's electrostaff away and remove his immediate weapon advantage. As the inferno closes in, Gideon is consumed by the flames, but before Din and Bo-Katan can be killed by the collapsing wreckage, Grogu creates a Force barrier around them to protect them from the fire and debris.
With Gideon gone and the base collapsing, the surviving Mandalorians escape the doomed installation while the structure burns behind them. The battle for Mandalore ends with the Imperial stronghold destroyed and Gideon defeated.
After the fighting, the Mandalorians return to the mines beneath Mandalore, where the ritual renewal of their people can continue. Paz Vizsla's son is brought to the living waters and takes the creed, receiving the formal baptism by the Armorer.
Din then brings Grogu to the waters as well, intending for him to take the creed too, but the Armorer refuses because Grogu cannot speak and does not have parental permission. Din responds by choosing to adopt Grogu as his own son, and the Armorer accepts the declaration. Grogu is officially recognized as Din Grogu and joins the Children of the Watch.
The Armorer then instructs Din that, now that he has a foundling son, he must leave Mandalore and continue his journey, just as his own teacher once did. She has the forging fire rekindled, and Mandalorians from both factions gather as the Forge burns again and the chant for Mandalore rises among them.
Later, Din meets with Captain Carson Teva and offers to work with the New Republic on a case-by-case basis for bounty hunting jobs that are too dangerous or too time-sensitive for regular New Republic forces. Teva agrees to the arrangement, and Din asks about the IG-11 droid head hanging above the bar because he wants it for parts, revealing that he intends to rebuild IG-11 as part of what comes next for him and Grogu.
What is the ending?
Din Djarin and Grogu survive the final battle, Bo-Katan helps defeat Moff Gideon, and the Mandalorians reclaim Mandalore. In the end, Din officially adopts Grogu as his son and apprentice, and the two settle into a quieter life on Nevarro while still preparing to work together again.
Bo-Katan and the other Mandalorians escape Gideon's collapsing base after the fight in the tunnels and command areas. Din pushes deeper into the Imperial complex and finds Gideon's cloning operation, where the unfinished clones are destroyed in the chaos. Gideon then confronts Din directly in a final fight, and when Bo-Katan rejoins the struggle, the battle becomes a three-way clash amid fire, smoke, and collapsing machinery.
Grogu uses the Force to save Din and Bo-Katan by shielding them from the explosion as the base begins to come apart around them. Gideon is engulfed in the flames and appears to die in the destruction of his own command center. After that, the Mandalorians gather back on their planet, and Bo-Katan leads them in reclaiming Mandalore through the living waters and the renewed forge.
Paz Vizsla's son is inducted into the creed after his father's death earlier in the season, showing the continuation of Mandalorian tradition. The Armorer then accepts Grogu as a foundling who can be officially raised within the creed, and Din later claims him as his adopted son, naming him Din Grogu. The final scenes show Din and Grogu in their new home on Nevarro, with Din taking on work for the New Republic while continuing life as a bounty hunter with Grogu at his side.
The ending is basically this: the Mandalorians win back their home, Gideon falls, Din and Grogu become a true family, and Bo-Katan's people begin rebuilding.
Is there a post-credit scene?
No. "Chapter 24: The Return" does not have a post-credits scene; the episode ends with the credits and no extra teaser or stinger afterward.
What does happen near the end, and may be mistaken for a post-credits scene, is the reveal that IG-11 has been restored and is serving as Nevarro's new marshal. The finale closes with Din Djarin and Grogu settling into their new life on Nevarro, rather than cutting to a separate scene after the credits.

Is this family friendly?
Yes -- it is family-friendly for many older kids and teens, but it is not a gentle children's episode. It contains science-fiction action violence, tense confrontations, and a few potentially scary or intense moments that may bother sensitive viewers.
Potentially objectionable or upsetting elements, without spoilers: - Blaster combat and explosions, with characters being shot at and attacked. - Hand-to-hand fighting and other action scenes that can feel intense. - Threatening or frightening imagery, including armored villains, dangerous creatures, and chaotic battle settings. - Briefly upsetting injuries or death-related moments typical of the series, though the show generally avoids gore. - Mild language may occur, but the series is mostly free of strong profanity.
For most families, this is best suited to older children who are comfortable with action-heavy Star Wars content. If a child is sensitive to violence, loud sound effects, or tense peril, parental guidance is advisable.
