What is the plot?
The episode begins by showing, in summary form, that Nagumo was captured after chasing Niikura's locket, and that she is being taken to the Tanabe family's Hospitality Towers as a "reward" for a good deed she unknowingly performed earlier.
Nagumo arrives by limo at the Tanabe Mansion complex and is brought into the Hospitality Towers, where the reward is explained as a luxurious stay overseen by Sumire Sakurakomi Tanabe's household. She is told, in effect, that she can leave only by clearing a tower full of staged challenges in a Game of Death-style sequence, so the reward immediately becomes an escape problem for her.
Nagumo starts trying to get out of the towers rather than accept the celebration, and in the process she runs into the Nice Man from earlier episodes. Wako also appears and joins the escape attempt, turning Nagumo's solitary confusion into a trio moving through the tower together. The group then begins working their way down floor by floor, with each level presenting a different boss or obstacle that is meant to keep them inside.
On one floor they face a magician whose birds turn against him after he is exposed as mistreating them, causing his resistance to collapse. On another floor they encounter a karate master, but the fight never properly begins because he has already broken his arm before their arrival and is unable to stop them, so he reluctantly lets them pass. The tower sequence keeps moving through these kinds of absurd confrontations, with the bosses being defeated, surrendering, or otherwise neutralized one by one as Nagumo, the Nice Man, and Wako continue downward.
While Nagumo is trapped in the tower, other events in the city unfold at the same time. Niikura continues chasing after her locket while the cat Mimineko runs around with it, and Ecchan and Matsuri keep searching for the cat as well. Tatewaku and his soccer team discover the mythical Tsuchinoko. The Adatara family delivers beer to the Hospitality Towers. Other invited guests, including the manga artist and editor from previous episodes, are brought into the tower area for the celebration. Nagumo's landlady also infiltrates the event so she can collect rent from Nagumo.
As the downward escape reaches its end, Nagumo, the Nice Man, and Wako finally make it out of the Hospitality Towers. Their exit does not end the event, however, because the different simultaneous city scenes converge outside the Tanabe Mansion into a huge party atmosphere, with all the separate streams of action colliding into one large gathering.
At the end of the episode, Niikura's locket is revealed to contain the first picture she ever took of Nagumo.

What is the ending?
Nagumo is taken to the Tanabe family's hospitality towers as a supposed reward, but she treats it like an escape and keeps pushing upward with Ii Hito and Wako until they get out. The ending then spills outward into a larger citywide celebration, and the episode closes with the tower group reaching the party outside the Tanabe mansion while Niikura's missing locket is revealed to contain a photo of Nagumo.
Nagumo is brought to the Tanabe mansion by limousine after catching Officer Tanabe's umbrella in the previous episode. She is told, in effect through the situation rather than plainly, that this is a reward, but the reward takes the form of being placed inside the hospitality towers, where every floor is another elaborate challenge on the way to the top. Nagumo's first reaction is not gratitude but resistance: she wants out, and the episode keeps her moving from floor to floor as she tries to escape the forced celebration.
Inside the tower, she encounters Ii Hito, also caught up in the same reward system, and he becomes part of the escape attempt. Wako also joins them, climbing into the tower and attaching herself to the attempt to get out. The three move through the final stretch together, and the episode presents their progress as a chain of escalating, crowded, comic obstacles rather than a single clean breakthrough. By the end of the tower sequence, they finally emerge outside.
The ending does not stop there. Outside the mansion, the separate strands of the episode come together into a much larger scene: the escape from the towers opens into a broad party happening in the yard and around the mansion, with the city's many simultaneous activities converging into one crowded celebration. Niikura, meanwhile, is still chasing her lost locket while Mimineko runs off with it, and that thread resolves when the locket is revealed to contain the first photo Niikura ever took of Nagumo. The episode closes on that reveal, which ties Niikura's search directly back to Nagumo and ends the story with the characters gathered in the aftermath of the tower escape and the party outside the Tanabe mansion.
Nagumo's fate at the end is that she gets out of the hospitality towers and ends up outside at the party rather than trapped inside. Ii Hito's fate is the same: he makes it through the escape with the others and reaches the outside gathering. Wako likewise reaches the end of the tower route with them and joins the final movement out into the party space. Niikura does not physically finish the tower sequence, but her storyline resolves at the end through the recovered locket and the photo of Nagumo inside it.
Is there a post-credit scene?
Yes. Episode 5 does not appear to have a conventional post-credits stinger, but it does have an extended end-credits sequence that continues the episode's story and should not be skipped.
What it shows is a stylized, storybook-like montage explaining the origin of the Towers of Hospitality connected to the Tanabe family: a frazzled Buddha is depicted as the one who built the towers, and a painted sequence presents a presumed Tanabe ancestor whose extreme hospitality became the family's defining legacy.
After that, the episode's ending continues into a big celebratory scene outside the Tanabe Mansion, with the energy of the party visually split across multiple simultaneous frames before coalescing into a larger crowd scene.
What happens to Nagumo after she chases Niikura’s locket at the start of episode 5?
In episode 5, Nagumo's pursuit of Niikura's locket leads directly into her capture and transfer to the Tanabe Mansion by limo, where she is taken into the family's hospitality towers as a kind of reward for catching Officer Tanabe's umbrella in the previous episode. The episode then follows her attempts to get out of that situation rather than the usual city-side wandering.
Who are the Nice Man and Wako, and how do they get involved in Nagumo’s escape attempt?

What is the Tanabe Mansion’s hospitality towers, and why is Nagumo trapped there?
The hospitality towers are a bizarre multi-floor structure inside the Tanabe Mansion where Nagumo is placed as part of the Tanabe family's reward system. She is treated to luxury, but the catch is that she can only leave by clearing Game of Death-style challenges on each floor, turning the mansion into an absurd obstacle course.
How do Nagumo and the others escape the tower, and what happens when they get outside?
Nagumo, the Nice Man, and Wako work their way through the tower challenges and eventually escape the hospitality towers. When they emerge, the episode shifts into a burst of simultaneous on-screen action that resolves into a huge party outside the Tanabe Mansion, so the escape does not lead to quiet relief but to an even more chaotic celebration.
What is revealed about Niikura’s locket in episode 5?
By the end of the episode, it is revealed that Niikura's locket contains the first picture she ever took of Nagumo. This makes the locket plot line emotionally specific rather than just a McGuffin, and it confirms that the object was tied to a personal connection between the two characters.
