Upload: Season 3, Episode 2 - Strawberry (2023)

Nathan and Nora are returning the hard drives of people who died while trying to upload to Freeyond. They visit Elijah Bennett's farm to give his drive to his parents, Bill and Cheyenne, but the couple's arrival makes Bill suspicious and hostile. Elijah's younger brother Logan confirms that Elijah had told him about his upload plan, helping convince the family that Nathan and Nora are not dangerous impostors. The Bennetts then invite them to dinner and allow them to stay overnight.

The next morning, Bill and Cheyenne make Nathan and Nora work on the farm by milking Strawberry, an enormous genetically modified cow whose udders produce milk and different cheeses. Nathan and Nora begin playfully throwing cheese at one another, but the teasing becomes personal and turns into an argument. Nora feels hurt because Nathan keeps treating her past work as his Angel like a burden she should be ashamed of, while Nathan becomes frustrated by her habit of keeping score in their relationship. They later reconcile when Nathan tells her that they are equals in the real world.

Ingrid realizes that the Nathan in Lakeview is not the same Nathan who died and was downloaded earlier. She confronts Tinsley and learns that Tinsley secretly restored Nathan from a backup copy made about a month before his death because she had lost the original. The backup Nathan remembers less recent history, including the events surrounding poker night, which explains his different behavior and his excitement about plans that no longer exist.

Ingrid tries to imitate Nora's apparent selflessness and changes her behavior to seem more compatible with Backup Nathan. She gets a makeover, asks for healthier food, suppresses her judgmental and jealous tendencies, and pressures Tinsley to cancel Family Day and provide him with celebrity-style outfits. Her exaggerated attempt to reinvent herself annoys Nathan, who eventually tells her that he values her as a complete person rather than as a carefully improved version of herself.

After Nathan compliments her strengths and flaws, Ingrid admits that she is not actually an upload. Her physical body is alive in the real world inside a hug suit, while she has been interacting with him digitally. She apologizes for deceiving him and expects him to be angry, but Nathan reacts with relief and happiness because her survival matters more to him than the lie. Ingrid agrees to stop hiding the truth from him.
