What is the plot?
The episode opens with a bloodied man lying in a bathtub. Will Trent's name is scrawled on the side of the tub. The setting is Faith's new condo.
Faith is in the process of finishing her move into the condo when her mother, Evelyn Mitchell, arrives for a visit. Evelyn needs to stay because of a health issue and will be there for two weeks. From the moment she arrives, Evelyn makes passive aggressive remarks about Faith's condo decor and her life choices, creating tension between them. Faith wants to set boundaries but struggles to do so. Faith has to leave for class, leaving Evelyn alone in the condo.
While Faith is away, a robbery occurs at the condo. Evelyn witnesses the burglary happening but hesitates to call her daughter. Instead, she calls the police directly. However, the police arrive too late. During the robbery, Evelyn is kidnapped by two men.
Back at the GBI, Faith and Will begin investigating. They discover that the bloodied man found in Faith's bathtub was named Michael Cole. His death had been officially ruled a suicide, but the investigation reveals new details. Michael's body had been too waterlogged to definitively prove murder. Additionally, his relationship with a woman named Juanita had been completely omitted from the original reports. This oversight becomes significant as the investigation progresses.
Faith rushes back to her condo, desperately scanning for any clue her mother may have left behind. In her color-coded closet, she finds a single white shirt that is out of place. A word has been written on it in blood: INONI. The discovery overwhelms Faith. Her vision blurs. She becomes dizzy and dehydrated. She collapses.
Will calls an ambulance for Faith because she has passed out from low blood sugar. Amanda threatens to have an EMT follow Faith around to ensure she stays healthy and maintains proper nutrition.
Faith, Will, and Amanda work together to piece together what the two kidnappers want. They discover the motive involves antique coins. The investigation leads them to interrogate Stacey Cole, Michael's brother. When Will announces he is with the GBI, Stacey bolts from the location. Faith tackles him. Back at the GBI, Stacey refuses to cooperate initially, but Faith eventually breaks through his resistance by threatening him with the full force of her authority and personal rage.
The investigation reveals that Michael Cole did not die by suicide. What actually happened was that Michael's death resulted from a sexual encounter with Juanita that turned deadly. It was meant to be playful at first, a moment of intimacy, but something went wrong. Mike struggled, his arms yanking against the restraints. The scratch marks behind the bar, the same ones Evelyn had noticed in Faith's bathroom, were from Michael desperately trying to free himself as he realized he was trapped. Juanita had lied about the circumstances. She knew exactly why Mike died and had covered it up.
The two men who kidnapped Evelyn are connected to Juanita. They want something from her, and they believe Evelyn knows where it is or can help them get it. Evelyn wakes in a dark room and sees another person there. Both are handcuffed and unable to move. Evelyn begins hallucinating and sees Faith. Two men enter and talk to Juanita, asking why she didn't warn them that they were breaking into a cop's house. Evelyn surmises that Juanita has what they want but won't give it to them.
While being held captive, Evelyn uses her wits to survive. When one of the men, Grant, becomes aggressive and violent toward her, Evelyn injects him with insulin, causing him to pass out. This act of self-defense buys her time.
As Faith searches for her mother, memories flood back. She remembers a pivotal moment from her past. When Faith discovered she was pregnant as a teenager, all she wanted was a hug from her mother. Instead, Evelyn ran out and screamed. That lack of support has haunted Faith ever since and created a deep rift between them.
However, as Faith races to save her mother, another memory surfaces. She recalls that during her labor, Evelyn held her hand through the entire delivery process. After the baby was born, Evelyn offered Faith a choice beyond adoption. She offered to help Faith raise the baby and told her she would tell the adoptive parents-in-waiting to get lost if that was what Faith wanted. When Faith decided to keep her son Jeremy, Evelyn followed through on that promise and supported her daughter.
Faith and Will obtain the location of where Evelyn is being held. They race to a storage unit where Evelyn has been hidden away. Grant wakes up from the insulin injection and becomes violent. He starts beating Evelyn. She fights back hard, refusing to be a passive victim.
Faith, Will, and backup police officers arrive at the storage unit. Faith bursts in and pulls Grant off her mother. Grant is stronger than Evelyn and manages to get his hands around her throat, beginning to strangle her. Suddenly, the garage door opens. Will and Faith rush in with backup following close behind. Grant is ripped off Evelyn and dragged to the ground by the officers.
Faith is at her mother's side in seconds. Evelyn is shaking and breathless, struggling to catch her breath after being strangled. Faith steadies her mother. She leans in close and whispers, "Breathe with me." Evelyn does, synchronizing her breathing with her daughter's as they hold each other in the aftermath of the ordeal.
What is the ending?
Faith and Will burst into the storage unit garage just as Grant is strangling Evelyn. They pull him off her, arresting him on the spot, while Faith rushes to her mother's side, whispering "Breathe with me" to calm her shaking and breathless form. Later, at home, Faith and Evelyn reconcile, forgiving each other for past hurts, with Evelyn encouraging Faith to pursue her dance classes.
Evelyn sits chained to a pipe in the dimly lit storage unit garage, her one free hand clutching an insulin shot after jabbing it into Grant's leg. He stumbles and collapses unconscious beside her, still linked by the cuff. Juanita, who had been held with her, grabs Grant's fallen gun, her face tense with hesitation as Evelyn looks to her expectantly for help unlocking the cuff. Instead, Juanita steps back, grips the gun tighter, and bolts out of the garage, leaving Evelyn alone with the unconscious Grant.
Evelyn's vision clears from a dizzy haze of memories, her breathing ragged but steadying as she recalls Faith's voice echoing in her mind: "Hang on just a little longer." She focuses, waiting for rescue while scanning for any other escape.
Grant stirs awake moments later, his eyes snapping open with rage. He lunges at Evelyn despite the chain limiting him, his stronger hands closing around her throat. Evelyn fights back desperately, gasping and struggling against his grip as he squeezes tighter, her face turning red from the pressure.
The garage door suddenly rattles open with a loud mechanical groan. Will Trent and Faith Mitchell rush in first, GBI backup swarming behind them with weapons drawn. They charge forward, ripping Grant off Evelyn and dragging him to the ground, cuffing his hands behind his back as he thrashes and curses. Faith drops to her knees at her mother's side in seconds, cradling Evelyn's head. Evelyn shakes violently, her breaths coming in short, panicked bursts. Faith steadies her with gentle hands on her shoulders, locking eyes and whispering softly, "Breathe with me." Evelyn matches her daughter's rhythm, inhaling deeply and exhaling slowly until her trembling eases and color returns to her face.
Grant is hauled away by officers, subdued and arrested for the kidnapping, the earlier murder of Mike, and the attempted killing of Evelyn. Juanita, having fled the scene earlier, remains at large by the episode's immediate close, her betrayal confirmed as she had orchestrated Mike's death in a bathtub restraint gone wrong during an intimate encounter, later covering it up.
In the aftermath, Faith and Evelyn return to Faith's condo. They sit together on the couch amid the familiar clutter, Betty the cat purring nearby. Evelyn, still bruised but composed, opens up first. She apologizes deeply for her past reaction to Faith's teenage pregnancy announcement--not anger, but profound disappointment that she hadn't made Faith feel safe enough to confide sooner. Faith listens, her eyes softening, then shares her own regrets for the years of resentment and distance. They forgive each other fully, the weight of old wounds lifting in quiet tears and embraces. Evelyn urges Faith to keep attending her dance classes, insisting she'll excel there. Faith nods, a small smile breaking through.
Will Trent stands by supportively throughout the rescue, his quick thinking with the team securing the location from earlier clues like the blood-written "INONI" shirt in Faith's closet. He survives unharmed, returning to GBI duties with Faith as partners. Faith Mitchell emerges stronger, her dehydration episode earlier resolved, now reconciled with her mother and recommitted to her life. Evelyn Mitchell survives the ordeal through her own resourcefulness with the insulin shot and Faith's timely arrival, physically recovering and emotionally healed in her relationship with Faith. Angie and Ormewood appear peripherally in investigations but wrap up safely, their friendship noted in passing without direct involvement in the finale scenes.
Is there a post-credit scene?
No, there is no post-credit scene in Will Trent season 3 episode 5, "Breathe with Me."
The episode concludes with Faith and Will rescuing Evelyn from the storage unit just in time, as she fights off her attacker using a needle of insulin in a desperate act of self-defense. Evelyn and Faith reunite emotionally in the aftermath, with Evelyn apologizing for her past reaction to Faith's teenage pregnancy news, acknowledging her failure to make her daughter feel safe and healing long-standing wounds in their mother-daughter relationship. This resolution wraps up the central kidnapping plot tied to the stolen upside-down Mioni coin, Juanita's crew, and the antique dealer Tucker Stevenson, without any additional teaser or post-credits material shown after the main credits roll.
