Toye reluctantly joins his father's military force that is searching for Iyanu, indicating his involvement in the larger conflict surrounding Iyanu. Later, Toye works together with Iyanu, Biyi, and the leopard Echo to fight the People of the Deep during a raid on Riverland.

Chancellor Nuro dismisses concerns about worsening conditions in the workers' district, while King Oba Adeyinka asserts that finding Iyanu is the top priority. Olori is arrested, and there are tensions involving these leaders as the crisis escalates.

Echo, the mysterious leopard, appears and Iyanu connects with it, convincing Biyi of its importance. Iyanu, Biyi, Toye, and Echo work together to fight the People of the Deep during their raid on Riverland, and they eventually flee riding on Echo.

Elder Ojuwa speaks with Olori and Uwa, who is encouraged by Olori to search for Iyanu. Ojuwa and Uwa later make plans to find Iyanu while expressing concern about Chancellor Nuro's dismissive attitude toward the workers' district problems.
